Rachel Joanne Design

I have always been a fairly elusive blogger - although my intention is to post regularly, but I have been pretty busy (as usual) - where does all the time go? However, I do have a fairly valid excuse, because I can now direct you to my new website...

Here is a sample of a couple of projects that are on the site.

Have a peek and let me know what you think - I welcome all feedback!!!

Clutter Clear Out

Should it stay or should it go...clearing and sorting our wardrobe or desk (or office/home) is actually quite liberating and we often underestimate the impact this has on our lives. This was recently demonstrated to me by a very dear friend, whilst caring for my children one day, she tackled my youngest daughter's room (aged 3) with only what I can presume was focus and enthusiasm.

How wonderful to come home and see such tidy, coordinated drawers and wardrobe space. All the small, old and no longer worn clothing ready to go to hospice, as well as unloved and forgotten toys. Now she has a lovely colourful display in a cabinet I refurbished and other toys popped away in boxes to be brought out, played with, and put away again!

Once I have organised my way through every room and every cupboard and drawer, I plan to continue to do this in my work and everyday life. My wise father has often reminded me when I am feeling overwhelmed, to firstly tackle the small things that I can change immediately. By doing this, I can begin to take control again and often start to feel more energised and uplifted - not to mention more in control!

So go ahead - de-clutter - you will be suprised by the results of this relatively easym systematic task!

Some fave photos!

I have been a little slack lately - been super busy, but some great photos to show you shortly of work I have been doing. In the meantime I thought I would share some of my favourite photos from Dear Designer.

I could live with each of these different styles, they are just divine!

Hope everyone has a fabulous and productive week!

Citrus Loves

I love citrus brights, and have used wasabi green, turquoise and orange recently on furniture I have revamped. It is often difficult to step outside our comfort zone and use such a strong statement colour in a room, but the result is gorgeous and eye catching, just like these fabulous bookcases!

Happy summer days!

Great Summer Reading

Recently I met with one of NZ's leading fashion designers, Annah Stretton, who is a hugely inspirational business woman and powerhouse extraordinaire. She has achieved an admirable amount in her career and businesses, and something which I have no doubt she will continue to expand and succeed with.

I was nervous about meeting Annah but I found her to be approachable and very likeable. I was even lucky enough to leave with a lovely gift! I am only half way through the book I received "Wise Heart" but I am hooked. Annah's passion, enthusiasm and common sense are contagious and I got up this morning after a very late night (my daughter celebrated her 13th birthday with a sleepover - where does the time go) with energy and looking forward to the day at hand. I have already cleaned the house, done the washing, and started the evening's meal - long may it last.

So in a nutshell, I can highly recommend this book, it is easy to read and I am sure we can all find parallels, in our home and working life.

Happy reading!

Summer Bright

For those of us living in beautiful Aotearoa it hasn't been the best summer - but today the sun is shining, bright and beautiful - just like this super cute wreath!

All the best for a super sunny week!

Bold & Beautiful

Two years ago I moved from a mid century weatherboard bungalow on a large leafy section, to a new brick and tile house on a small suburban section. This was in the hope that I would stop spending all my time, money and energy on continual repairs and renovation, however funnily enough I am continuously renovating and re-renovating. I am currently in the middle of doing my lounge (for the second time) and my son's room  and then I will tackle my bedroom (also for the second time).

I must admit I am getting much bolder and I love the stronger colours, the black and white stripes are so stunning... I'm hoping to put some bold stripes in my house.

In the meantime I have attached some gorgeous bold inspirational photos!

Take care all!
