Is Black Still Shabby Chic?

A couple of weeks ago I purchased two hutch dressers that were the same.

I decided to make quite a change to each of them. Working on the slightly darker unit first, I removed the interior parts of the doors and the back and thoroughly sanded it back.

Then I painted the internal cupboards in a lovely light pink and the rest of the unit in black, lightly distressing it in my usual style and wax finishing. I wallpapered the backboard with some vintage paper I have had forever, added chicken mesh to the lower doors and finished off the unit with some lovely glass handles.

Well the finished product is quite different to what I usually do, but I love the black!
