As a keen "refurbisher", "revamper" and seller of old furniture, I am often asked "is it antique or is it vintage?"
In my opinion the definition would be;
An antique is generally an item that is desirable because of its age (100 years +), and craftmanship. Items tend to represent a previous era and have been left in its original state.
A vintage item is an old item, but not necessarily 100 years old or more and is also usually well made with an appeal that has withstood the test of time. The term "vintage" can describe originals and reproductions that can't be identified as antique, such as painted pieces.
That being said the items I tend to purchase, prepare, and paint would be best described as vintage! So here is a photo of a "vintage" hutch dresser I have just completed.
