Silver Leaf Bedhead

I recently tackled my first "leafing" project. I bought this already lovely mahogany carved Queen sized bedhead and decided to do something a little different with it (rather than just paint it white).

After getting instructions from the internet, I set out to create my masterpiece. A sealer coat of paint and two top coats later I applied the paste and then delicately the silver leaf sheets which are super thin and float around everywhere. I covered the whole headboard and stood back to assess - what a mess! Paper and bits of silver everywhere - all over me, the floor, the dog and needless to say your base coat has to be perfect I had runs from the paste which showed through!

So... after "very vocal" contemplation, I scraped all the silver off (a very lengthy process), reapplied the sealer coat and three black top coats and then attached silver leaf to the carved areas only. So much better, in fact I would go as far to say as I love it!

I now think this bedhead looks stylish and sophisticated and perfect in a bedroom with some gorgeous bedlinen!

Have a great week,
Rachel
